How do you think the roles of women have changed compared to that of women when you were growing up?
Growing up women were restricted to do house chore such as cooking, cleaning and looking after the children. But today things have changed. Women from rural areas have power to do as they please. Education has made women independent. Women are running big and successful companies. The laws have changed to allow more women in the workplace, where only men were seen as equipped to work, for example electrical construction. Work environments have been made safer to accommodate women in the work place. In most countries women are are put in power to head up their states, countries and provinces which proves how far women have come from the old framework that was designed for them.

I am always the first to arrive at work at around 07:15 am in the morning, the first thing I do is open up the scheduler to see what treatment I have for the day. Do you think the 15-year-old version of you would be proud of what you have achieved?
Most definitely, growing up all I ever wanted, was to become a nurse. My innate desire was to serve people and to help sick. That dream ended the day I was admitted into hospital. The second I saw blood, is the second I knew in my heart that I won’t be able to do this, I won’t be able to be a nurse.
Today I am proud to say that I am a phenomenal beauty and massage therapist. I honestly feel that I was intended for this path I am on. I am fulfilling my purpose of healing and serving people and loving every minute of it.
In this career I get to heal people with my magic touch in a soft or deep tissue massage.

Interview with Zoleka
How do you think the roles of women have changed compared to that of women when you were growing up?
Over the generations we have seen how the role of women in our societies have evolved, from the conception where women were seen as nothing less than home makers, baby nurturers and the people who make the man of the household comfortable and at ease.
Today we see women taking up space in sectors that we never thought they would even enter into. Women today are getting themselves an education, working in various industries that were seen as male dominated, creating employment for the masses and creating seats for themselves at tables where change and improvement for the greater good is discussed. Women are taking back their power, by not just being the corner stone and safe place and center of their homes but by inspiring, educating and empowering men and women. Women today have the ability and strength to have the home, husband, kids and career. Women today can, most definitely be seen as a brand of excellence.
How does technology assist you in your line of business?
Over the years technology has evelolved so much that deep down a fear that it might replace me arises. But with that said, there is only one Zozo.
With that said I find technology to be a tool that I use to elevate my excellence in my line of work. As complicated, overwhelming and hectic as it becomes to work with technology I find that it allows us to reach out to guests and make their lives easier as we are her to serve them.

Once that is done I sit and wait for the phone to ring.

Most definitely. Today I stand proudly and say that I am black strong and educated women in her own right. Not only have I grown in my emotional intelligence but I have grown into the young women I always saw myself becoming. Yes of course there is always room for improvement but for now at this time I am grateful for the growth and improvement.
When fears arise whenever I have to embark on a new journey and try something new Nelson Mandela’s words come to mind – “Our deepest fear is not that we are weak. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually who are you not to be?
My excellence and power were and will always be my vocal point.
